What I’m Working On…

I hosting an auction here on the blog.? If you missed it, you can find it HERE.? It ends today at noon central time.? If you’re looking for sewing machine attachments for your vintage machines, this is the sale you’ve been looking for.

I wasn’t at the sewing machine very much this week at all.? I did manage to get the Unity Quilt Along blocks sewn.? Being there was so many, I guess that really wasn’t a small feat.

I’m writing this post on Sunday night so the plan is, after I’m done writing this, to head upstairs and get them sewn onto the quilt.? I am so happy this quilt is coming to a close.? I’ve really enjoyed making it and the round robin style is appealing to me.? I’m ready for the mess of it to get cleaned up and put away though.? I’ll be happy to have another quilt finished.? I’m hoping by next Monday I’ll have a finish to show.? That’s an advantage to having my own longarm.

I did work on the Quilted Twins mystery for just a bit.? Not much at all really.? I thought I had all the first blocks done but soon discovered that I was short two blocks and finished them but that’s all I did on that.??

When Kelli was home she started cutting out this…. Continue reading

A Busy Saturday

I hosting an auction here on the blog.? If you missed it, you can find it HERE.? It ends today at noon central time.? If you’re looking for sewing machine attachments for your vintage machines, this is the sale you’ve been looking for.

When I woke up on Saturday I was bound and determined to accomplish something.? Do you ever go from day to day, busy the whole time, yet feel like you continually accomplish nothing?? My days have seemed like that.

I decided it was garden day.? I’ve been debating and debating over the last while if I should mask up and head out to the garden center or let Karl do it.? I’m really trying to limit leaving but there comes a time when some errands are a little hard.

You all who plant a garden know how it goes.? I like to plant Roma tomatoes for salsa making.? If they don’t have Roma’s I know to check for Amish Paste.? Karl doesn’t know that.

So, I decided that I would mask up and get the plants….I changed out of my home clothes and when I was in upstairs, I saw this….UGH.
It’s all the “stuff” from my sewing room that needs a home….a home with someone else than me.? Being I was going out, I decided I would drop off local things.

I had a friend who messaged me and said if I was sorting fabric and ran across some eye spy type novelty fabrics, she’s love for me share…so I shared some the fabric you all have sent me.? She has a little grandson that I think is going to be getting a new quilt.

A lady from my church works making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.? She also works with a group of her friends making quilts for benefits and charities.? She got lots of goodies dropped off at her house.? I sorted through my strip boxes and she got a lot!!

All of this went to the Cresco ladies…. Continue reading

Quilt Finish: Show Off

I hosting an auction here on the blog.? If you missed it, you can find it HERE.? It ends today at noon central time.? If you’re looking for sewing machine attachments for your vintage machines, this is the sale you’ve been looking for.

I’ve been working my way through the flimsy, or finished quilt top, pile that is sitting by the long arm.? I’m determined not to quit.? The bad part though, The quilts at the bottom of the pile are bigger or harder.? That’s why they have been on the bottom of the pile.? When I started this all I could easily hammer a quilt top out.? Now it’s slower going.

The latest finish…this…

It’s Kelli’s quilt top.? It’s made using a free pattern from Quilted Twins called Show Off.? You can find the free pattern HERE.? The original was done using 100% cotton mens shirts in a variety of colors.? Kelli decided to only use blue shirts..but notice the blues go from VERY dark blue to light blues.? She used the extras for the piano key border.

Without me knowing that Kelli was making one of these quilts I had also cut out one of these quilts.? I did mine more like the original in color.? It’s in my UFO pile.? I’ll tackle it someday.

I loved that she mixed the colors to include so many different shades.
There is a great variety from large plaids to small checks to stripes.

The binding came from my 2″ shirt strip box.? It’s all scrappy.

This quilt is another great example of a quilt that is simple but pleasing.? All quilts really don’t have to be fancy and hard to make to look good.

Don’t you think?

I used a variegated thread the goes from light to dark blue.
You can see the quilting motif I used better in the picture below.

Doesn’t the sky look great with the quilt??
It was windy here so I snapped pictures in between wind gusts.
The backing came from Quilted Twins’ quilt shop.

When I saw it I just knew a quilt would come along that this would be perfect for.? This quilt definitely is.

Sad part, I didn’t have enough of it so I improvised.

I used up some fat quarters and scraps of blue solid fabrics that I had.? Use it up!!

Of course every quilt needs a Rosie picture.

Isn’t she the cutest???

All in all, a great quilt design from Becky…great color selection from Kelli and my choice of back and quilting was okay too…it made it all one great quilt.

If you’re looking for fabric from Quilted Twins, you can find that HERE.

Kalissa’s Birthday

Kalissa’s birthday is today.? She had plans to hang out with Craig and the kids so on Friday afternoon I decided I’d help Carver plan a birthday surprise for her.? Of course Kalissa kind of knew what we were doing.? It’s hard to get a three year old to not tell a secret.

So before Carver came I made a homemade angel food cake from scratch.? When she was a kid, Kalissa’s favorite cake was angel food so I thought what the heck…it’s been a long time since I made one from scratch, I’ve give it a try.

I LOVE baking things that from scratch and I LOVE baking things that are a challenge.? The angel food cake I made was both…from scratch and a bit of a challenge.

Over the years I’ve had many failed attempts at homemade angel food cake.? Then after watching a Youtube video I finally figured it out.? Here is the link to my recipe.

I made the cake in the afternoon…then went walking with my friend.? The plan was the Kalissa and family to come to my house when I was done walking then we’d send Kalissa to pick up take out and Carver and I would jump into action putting up the decorations and getting the cake finished.

And that’s what happened….Here are our silly decorations…. Continue reading
